Greetings! Can you believe today is literally the last day in November? Before you know it, Christmas will be upon us!
I don't know about you, but my schedule fills up considerably around this time of the year. While I do try to step back a bit from work (notice the emphasis on 'try'), as the mom of four children (three teenagers and one pre-teen), one of who has special needs, as this time of year approaches, I get filled with trepiditions as I try to figure out how to ensure that the family tranditions are held inclusively, that is, my son (the pre-teen) with cerebral palsy is not a mere observer, but has equal opportunities to participate in all our family activities.
Over the next 25 days, I would like to share some my lessons learned as tips on not only surviving the holidays as parents with special needs children, but how to actually make the time together memorable and enjoyable! I would like to call this short feature "Have yourselves A Very Inclusive Christmas Season". I know that you too have burning stories and tips you would like to share. Leave us your comments we will be sure to circulate.
Until tomorrow, I'd like to share my first tip - Make silly pictures together for your Christmas tree or scrap book. Here is one of my pictures - My son Nathan who is eleven years old and has cerebral palsy posing as a Christmas tree ornament!
Cheers,
